In this series of standards, ,chemical protective clothing, is divided into 6 ,classifications, or “Types” based on whether the garment is suitable from ,protection, from dry particle, liquid, gas/vapor hazards; the level of exposure to the hazard, and the design of the garment.
ISO 16602:2007 establishes minimum performance classification and labelling requirements for protective clothing designed to provide protection against chemicals. Protective clothing items covered by ISO 16602:2007 include, but may not be limited to, totally encapsulating suits, liquid-tight or spray-tight suits, coveralls, jackets, trousers, aprons, smocks, hoods, sleeves, and shoe and boot covers.
Nitrile – Solid chemical and abrasion resistance, a starting point for most protective gear, solid protection from oil products, caustics, and acids. Neoprene – Heat resistance and high tensile strength, weak to abrasion, good with acids and caustics. Butyl – Highest resistance to water vapors and gas, ketones and esters in particular.
